The Essence of Leadership Workshop Series
Leading a process for any initiative takes thought, planning and prescribed execution. Throughout this series we will focus on strengthening your foundation for strong leadership as well as building a toolkit to guide the curriculum work being done at your school or district.

Establish a Foundation for Leading Curriculum Design
This session explores foundational competence areas for curriculum leaders. Whether you are a formal or an informal curriculum leader at your school or district, come and engage in hands-on and reflective activities that will develop and sharpen essential skills for proactive and transformational leadership.

  • Examine the key elements to curriculum design that focus on identifying the essential components to your curriculum, explore the school structures and processes in place and develop a strategic plan to manage the process
  • Formulate a guide for structuring a solid Core Leadership Team and identify their role in supporting and leading your curriculum process
  • Explore up-to-date best practices and the lessons learned from actual Atlas users as to what it takes to lead a successful mapping process
  • Build and share tools that will strengthen your Core Leadership Team process

Design an Effective Review Process
A key component throughout Rubicon's Methodology is curricular review. Examine components of successful curricular review processes and how they might be employed at your school or district to sustain ongoing curricular enhancement. Participants will be encouraged to bring representative examples of their curriculum to use in focused review conversations.

  • Model and practice the three main types of review:
    • Quality
    • Peer
    • Small Group
  • Create protocols that will provide your colleagues with the facilitation tools necessary to conduct curricular review based on key goals identified.
  • Explore ways to engage faculty in designing and sustaining the curriculum mapping process.

Build Tools and Resources*
Continue to expand the tools and resources you need by creating an interactive podcast for your team or brainstorming with colleagues from around the world on key items.

Participants will select one focused activity by creating a podcast or tool that reflects one of the following:

  • Get front and center with every member of your team to explain the purpose of mapping at your school or district.
  • Walk through the structure and use a review protocols created in the workshop to assist in conducting your review process.
  • Develop a series of in depth review protocols.

Refine and Reflect
Prerequisite: Attend Build Tools and Resources
Take time to present and gain feedback on tools and resources developed in previous sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to work individually or with their team to make revisions, finish the development of their tool or spend one on one time with an Atlas consultant.

  • Practice protocols to giving and receiving constructive feedback on work.
  • Seize the opportunity to return with completed products necessary to support your process.
  • Celebrate the successes achieved.
  • Spend individual time with an Atlas consultant to answer any critical questions.

* As a prerequisite for the Build Tools and Resources workshop, participants must have attended a prior AEC workshop session, during either the same or a different visit.  Additionally, these workshops begin at 8:00 am.
